2.4 Test sequence
In the case of’ two or more tests listed in Clause 1 . 1 being carried out in one laboratory work contract, the tests should be in the following sequence:
(a) Deflection test under the specified positive and negative wind load.
(b) Operating force test.
(c) Air infiltration test.
(d) Water penetration resistance test.
(e) Ultimate strength test.
If a deflection test is not carried out, an initial pressure equivalent to 50% of either the positive or negative SLS test pressure shall be applied to the test specimen and held for one minute. This shall be taken as a settling-in take-up period.
If the test specimen requires modification to gaskets, seals or drainage details, then the operating force, air infiltration and water penetration tests shall be repeated in full.
Before retesting, all accessible areas of the test specimen shall be dry and the specimen checked for being operable. The test specimen shall first be preloaded to 50% of either the positive or negative SLS test pressure for one minute. The test specimen shall then be inspected after positive pre-load to ensure there is no residual water visible in the system. If residual water is evident, the test specimen shall be left, or the positive air pressure preloading extended, until such time as the system is dry.
Any modification to the test specimen shall be noted on the respective drawing and the
amendment coded thereon.
2.5 Test report
The following information shall be reported:
(a) The name of the laboratory, authority or organization that conducted the test.
(b) The name of the client, specimen manufacturer and installer, as appropriate.
(c) The date on which the test was carried out.
(d) The full documentation of the test specimen in accordance with Clause 2.2.2.
(e) Dated drawings or photographs of the test specimen showing modifications, if any.
(0 Record all steps in the performance of the test, e.g. pre-loading, re-testing.
(g) Any additional information required by individual test procedures.
In the case of two or more tests listed in this Standard being carried out in one laboratory work contract, the test report shall record the order in which the tests were performed and shall contain a summary sheet showing the results of each test and where applicable, an overall window rating for housing for Australia, and a wind zone for New Zealand.
3 DEFLECTION TEST
3.1 Scope
This Clause sets out a method for determining the wind-loaded deflection/span ratio of
windows designed for installation in all classes of buildings.
3.2 Apparatus
The following apparatus is required:
(a) Test chamber—a pressure or suction chamber of a size to fit the test specimen window.AS NZS 4420.1 pdf download.
