13 GENERAL TEST PROCEDURE
13.1 General
This Clause (13) sets out the general test procedure. The test shall be performed in
accordance with the requirements of AS 1530.4, except as varied by this Standard.
The test duration is 90 mm comprising a 30 mm heating phase and a subsequent 60 mm
period during which the performance of the element is monitored.
13.2 Standard heating regime
The specimen shall be exposed to the standard heating regime specified in AS 1530.4.
Control of the furnace shall be in accordance with the requirements of AS 1530.4. Within
2 mm of termination of heating, the specimen shall be removed from the furnace to enable
observation of the fire exposed face.
13.3 Temperature data
The temperatures of the test specimen shall be measured at the positions indicated in accordance with the requirements of the relevant sections of AS 1530.4 and this Standard to monitor the conditions on the non-fire side of the specimen and specimen internal conditions.
13.4 Heat flux data
The incident and radiant heat flux data shall be recorded at a maximum of 5 s intervals.
For glazed specimens, the rear heat flux meter receiving radiation transmitted by the specimen may be positioned off-centre by not more than 200 mm from the centre of the glazed feature or uninsulated specimen.
Radiant heat flux may be measured at various locations. However, radiant heat flux shall be reported at a distance of 365 mm. Where required to calculate the average intensity of radiant heat flux from a different distance from the specimen. it shall be determined in accordance with the methods described in AS 1530.4.
13.5 Observations
Throughout the course of the test, observations shall be made of the behaviour of the specimen with particular emphasis on the performance criteria listed in Clause 13.6. All specimen behaviour shall be recorded, and the time of their occurrence shall be noted. Measurements shall be recorded at sufficient frequency to produce a plot that will permit reliable interpolation.
Temperature and heat flux data shall be recorded for the duration of the test.
13.6 Performance criteria
The failure criteria for the test are the following:
(a) Formation of an opening from the fire-exposed face to the non-fire-exposed face of the element through which a 3 mm diameter probe can penetrate for the duration of the 90 mm test period.
NOTE:Penetration is defined as a straight, unimpeded path through which a straight 3mm probe can pass through the specimen, freely and unobstructed, from the fire side to the nonfire side such that the tip of the probe is visible from the non-fire side.
(b) Sustained flaming for more than 10 s on the non-fire side for the duration of the 90 mm test period.AS 1530.8.2 pdf download.
