5 USAGE OF IMMUNIZATION MESSAGES
Immunization messages are intended to assist direct communication of immunization information between the provider and the registry.
At the time that the actual immunization is administered, the immunization message is sent by the provider to the registry to update the patient’s immunization record.
A single immunization message can include multiple immunizations for the same patient. The provider can update the patient’s immunization history without administering an immunization.
Historical data can be verified by the provider during consultation, by the use of the query message. Any variations can then be advised by the use of the immunization message to the registry.
6 BATCHING OF TRANSACTIONS
6.1 HL7 batch protocol
Many registries currently receive electronic notifications using common file transfer protocols. Transactions are commonly batched and employ a range of conventions for file naming and structure. It is likely that registry message transmissions will continue to use a batch file approach. A batch may contain one or many HL7 messages. HL7 messages within a batch are identical in structure and content to those sent as single messages. The HL7 batch protocol defines header and trailer segments. and file header and trailer segments if there are multiple batches within a single file transfer. The rules for acknowledgment of batches vary from those for single message transmissions and will be discussed in this Standard.
This Standard has been designed so that messages do not need to be batched.
8.2 Trigger event VOl—query for immunization record
Trigger event VOl occurs when a provider or a registry does not already have the complete patient immunization record. This results in the need for a query for immunization record to be sent to a registry.
For this purpose. the VXQ message is used. This message is described in HL7 V2.3.l Chapter 2. The VXQ query message, the segments it contains, and their usage are described in Clause 9.2.
This trigger event is initiated by a provider system or registry system in response to the need to obtain patient immunization information about the patient from a registry.
In response to this VXQ query message, the registry will reply with VXX response message if there are multiple matches; or with the VXR response message if there is a unique match.
8.3 Trigger event V02—response to inimunization query (VOl) returning multiple PID matches
Trigger event V02 occurs when a registry system identifies multiple matches to the VXQ query message.
For this purpose, the VXX response message is used. This message is described in HL7 V2.3.l Chapter 2. The VXX response message, the segments it contains and their usage are described in Clause 9.3.
The V02 trigger event is initiated by the registry system in response to the VXQ query message if there are multiple patient matches.AS 4700.5 pdf download.
