BS 3691:1990 pdf free.Specification for E glass fibre rovings for reinforcement of polyester and epoxy resin systems.
BS 3691 specifies requirements for E glass fibre rovings intended for the reinforcement of polyester and epoxy resin systems, including vinyl and bisphenyl polyesters.
NOTE The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover.
4 Manufacture
4.1 Construction
The rovings shall be constructed, either directly or indirectly, from glass strands of the same filament diameter designation. The filament diameter designation used shall be as given in Table 1, with filament diameter determined in accordance with Appendix B.
4.2 Size
The glass strands used in the manufacture of the rovings shall have been treated with a size that is compatible with the specified resin system
5 Property reguirements
The rovings as supplied shall be continuous about their length and shall comply with the property
requirements given in table 2 when tested by the appropriate methods
NOTE Rovings should normally be supplied uniform in colour and free from contaminants, fuzz balls and foreign bodies.
6 Packaging and marking
6.1 Rovings shall be packed in containers in such a manner as to provide protection against damage during transportation.
6.2 Each container shall be clearly marked with the following information:
a) the name or trade mark of the supplier;
b)the designation as specified in clause 3;
c)the designated tex value of the roving;
Appendix A Quality control testing
The following guidance on the nature of the requirements and test methods given in this British Standard is provided to assist in the preparation of quality plans for the manufacture of glass fibre rovings in accordance with this specification. Type tests are intended to prove the suitability and performance of a material. Such tests should be performed when a change is made in material composition or the design of the product, but maybe performed more frequently by incorporation into a plan for monitoring the consistency of manufacture.
Quality control tests are carried out during manufacture to prove the quality of a production run and such tests may be performed in respect of any of the requirements specified in the standard. However, certain additional test methods may be preferred because of the practicality and speed with which they may be performed in conjunction with a production process as compared to some of the type tests.BS 3691 pdf download.
