BS 5535:1978 pdf free.Specification for right angle and box angle plates.
BS 5535 relates to angle plates ranging in size from 60 mm X 50 mm to 600 mm x 500 mm. Successive sizes are in a series in which the dimensions increase by about the same ratio throughout.
Three grades, viz AA, A, and B, are provided according to three magnitudes of tolerance for squareness and the associated properties of flatness and parallelism of surfaces.
6 General features of design
6.1 Steel and cast iron angle plates
6.1.1 Angle plates shall be webbed or unwebbed as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2. It is recommended that webs, when provided, shall be set in slightly from the ends of plates. Box angle plates, sizes 200 mm x 160 mm and larger, shall have thin bracing webs across the open end.
6.1.2 Grade AA angle plates of
sizes 250 mm x 200 mm and larger shall be webbed. Grade A and B angle plates of sizes 400 mm x 300 mm and larger shall be webbed.
6.1.3 Webbed angle plates shall have a minimum thickness Tas specified in column 5 of Table 1. If unwebbed, they shall have a minimum thickness T as specified in column 6 of Table 1, and grade B plates, in addition, shall have a minimum radius R as specified in column 9 of Table 1.
7 Recommended sizes
The first and second choices of recommended sizes are shown in column I of Table 1. They are also the designation sizes and generally correspond with the RiO series of preferred numbers (see BS 2045). Should it be necessary to extend the range of sizes in either direction, it is recommended that this be done by continuing with the relevant number from the series. If sizes other than those shown in ‘I’able I are required or supplied, the tolerances for the next standard size lower are to be applied.BS 5535 pdf download.
