BS EN 50117-1:2019 pdf free.Coaxial cables.
4 Requirements for cable construction and design 4.1 General Designing the cable, consideration should be paid to the maximum admissible current stated in the detail specification. It is assumed that the raise of temperature of the inner conductor when submitted to the maximum current under nominal ambient conditions does not affect the mechanical properties of the cable, i.e. the temperature rise due to the current is below the continuous maximum permitted temperature of the dielectric and the sheath material.
All cables covered by this standard may be subjected to voltages greater than 50 V AC or 75 V DC according to the relevant sectional or detail specification.
In this case, care and attention should be paid to the requirements of the “Principle Elements of the Safety Objectives for Electrical Equipment Designed for Use within Certain Voltage Limits (LVD – 2O14/35/EU) by the sectional or detail specification. Relevant sectional or detail specifications will include a respective Annex ZZ.
However, cables covered by this standard are not intended for direct connection to the mains electricity supply or other low impedance sources.
All cables covered by this standard do not fall under the scope of the RED or the EMC Directive. Nevertheless, transfer impedance and screening attenuation according to 5.1.3.6 and 5.1.3.7 shall be specified in the relevant sectional or detail specification, if the intended application of the cable is the use in combination with equipment under the RED or the EMC Directive. The dielectric material(s) shall meet the requirements of the relevant part(s) EN 50290-2 series (EN 50290-2-20:2016, Table A.1) or otherwise, as detailed in the appropriate sectional specification. The dielectric insulation shall be composed of one or more suitable materials. The dielectric may be airspaced, semi-airspaced, foamed or solid.
The dielectric shall be continuous and as uniform as possible. When required, the thickness of the insulation shall be measured in accordance with the method specified in EN 60811-201.
The insulation shall be applied to fit closely to the conductor. When required, the stripping properties of the insulation shall be checked in accordance with the method specified in EN 50289-3. It shall be possible to strip the insulation from the conductor without visible damage to the conductor or its coating, and there shall be no insulation remaining on the conductor.
Diameter over the dielectric, ovality and eccentricity requirements shall be specified in the relevant sectional specification.BS EN 50117-1 pdf download.
